Good Morning
Today is a historic day for indigenous peoples. On the date that marks the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, the Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brasil (APIB) has presented a Communiqué to the Attorney's Office, which officiates before the International Criminal Court. This denunciation contains an array of violence that indigenous peoples have suffered as a result of the actions of the current President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro.
For the first time in history, indigenous peoples are heading directly to the International Criminal Court with their indigenous lawyers, to defend themselves against the crimes against humanity that we have been witnessing. The fight for the defense of human rights is carried out collectively, for the protection of life.
We believe there are acts in progress in Brazil that constitute crimes against humanity, genocide and ecocide. Given the inability of the current justice system in Brazil to investigate, prosecute and judge these conducts, we have denounced these acts to the international community, mobilizing the International Criminal Court. APIB will continue to fight for the right of indigenous peoples to exist in their diversity. We are Brazil's first nations and we will not surrender to extermination.
Sincerely,
Luiz Eloy Terena, PhD
