September 15, 2022

This year is the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). In that period, numerous developments have taken place regarding Indigenous Peoples Rights. These include legislation, legal reforms and jurisprudence at the national, regional and international levels. These have reaffirmed and further developed the rights enshrined in UNDRIP.

In May 2022, Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) launched the first edition of Xanharu - Digest of Legislation and Jurisprudence. The Digest has been identified as a resource to address the need of an easily-accessible tool that compiles emblematic and important legislation, decisions and jurisprudence developments around the world.

The Digest is aimed for Indigenous Peoples, lawyers, advocates and policy-makers to help and contribute in their advocacy and defense work and advance Indigenous Peoples’ Rights. It is expected to serve as a tool to further advance in the implementation of the UNDRIP and even contribute to the mandates of special procedures, Treaty Bodies and regional human rights protection mechanisms.

In September 2022, IPRI will present the second edition of the "Xanharu - Digest of Legislation and Jurisprudence." This edition will be presented during the week of the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The objectives of the webinar are to:

i) present the second edition of Digest of Legislation and Jurisprudence;

ii) discuss views on the developments and challenges since the adoption of the UNDRIP;

iii) contribute to the work and struggle of Indigenous Peoples and their defenders.
